In this video I take a look at most of the systems that had Cartridges, the only cartridge I don’t own is a Neo Geo AES cartridge, but I pretty much have everything else. Cartridges are extensions of the game hardware, and it tells the game console how to operate, these guys have Read only Memory or ROM and that’s how the game is played on the system, as time went on games were able to write data onto so developers put ‘Battery Back Ups’; into the system. These days games usually come on dvd’s or in the ps3’s case a Blu Ray disc, but we wouldn’t have had the DVD without the CD, so therefore because of the DVD media games are much bigger then they were on the game Cartridges of the past. May 20th, 2009 – I gave myself a little project over the past few days to find out all the different pin types a game cartridge for various systems, I came up with a list of most of them, I’ll list the systems and number of pins below: NES 72 Gameboy 32 GG 23 MS/M3 50 44 Famicom 60 Genesis 32 SNES 23/31 JG 51 N64 25 CPS2 28 GBA 30/32 (uncertain) Surprisingly (maybe not); the NES is the winner with the most pins, the Famicom only had 60 whereas the NES had 12 more for the 10 NES lockout chip, I have no idea about the other 2.
