12. Alfredo (cf. Alfredo ‘n the Fettucini, NES Action 52 #9): A bunch of food items are bouncing out of that huge pot in the center. Alfredo has to catch the pasta items in the little pot he’s carrying, but everything else will kill him. Idea sounds familiar? It sounds a lot like that Mario Bros. versus level from Super Mario 3 where Mario and Luigi must get coins while avoiding fireballs, all spewed out from one big pipe in the center. 11. Haunted Hills (cf. Haunted Hills, NES Action 52 #13) All four levels of the Genesis version of Haunted Hills. This is a much different game from the NES one. Here, you play a completely different character carrying a torch, and you have to collect all the diamonds in each level. Oh yeah, “ALL RIGHTS RESERVED” in the title screen seems to be garbled a little. But then again, what to expect of the graphics in Action 52? (#10: Star Duel is skipped because it’s a two-player-only game. It’s like Space War for the Atari 2600.) (#9: Sketch is skipped because it’s not even a game but a very primitive paint program.) 8. 15 Puzzle – Can’t believe they’d make nine levels out of the legendary sliding puzzle. The difference between these levels is that the computer shuffles the puzzle more vigorously. In level 1, the computer slides the tiles 30 times. In level 9, 110 times. In each level, the player has five minutes to solve the puzzle. With the wonders of tool-assisted recording, I pay very close attention to how the computer shuffles the tiles …
